PET Scan PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography)

Our new PET/CT scanner in Massapequa, the Siemens' Biograph, offers new potential in molecular imaging. This ground-breaking technology combines the incredible metabolic detail of PET images with the true volumetric CT images. This technique offers the most precise anatomical road map available.

PET focuses on the body's metabolic process allowing for the detection of disease long before any damage occurs. Cancer cells show up more brightly on scans because they are more metabolically active than non-cancer cells. Our PET/CT scanner takes full advantage of Lutetium Oxyorthosilicate (LSO) scintillator crystal (4mm) technology. Scintillators work by converting x-ray energy into visible light. This technology, unmatched in the industry, improves volumetric resolution by more than 250% over previous PET system designs.

As the only facility in Nassau County with a 40 slice PET/CT scanner, Zwanger-Pesiri continues to be the pioneer in diagnostic imaging. CT provides extremely detailed images of internal organs and soft tissue. CT generates 3- dimensional images from many 2-dimensional images taken around a single axis of rotation. Our Ultra-fast Ceramic (UFC) detector uses its superior X-ray absorption, high light output and very short afterglow properties to produce stunning CT images.
